HQ2 Visitor Landing
Client: Amazon
With a footprint exceeding 5500 sq ft available, Amazon commissioned a handful of companies to design, build, and develop a multimedia event space for their newly opened HQ2 in Arlington, VA.
Experiences included:
A to Z: A sidewalk facing exploration of all things Amazon. Covering each letter of the alphabet was a corresponding Amazon focus. From Alexa speakers to the Kuiper wifi satellite system, we integrated a variety of motion activated LED animations and stories to help bring these to life.
Here to There: A multi-kiosk table that allows users to see the work Amazon has done to improve the neighborhoods around the HQ2 facilities. When a user chooses a story on the kiosk screen, LED’s built into the 3D printed neighborhood on the table surface pulse to show where each story takes place, while animations showing the larger community impact play via projector on the table surface.
Leadership Principles: Anyone who has interacted with Amazon professionally knows that their leadership principles lead the way and set the tone internally. This backlit wall illuminates each principal outward from the point where the user approaches the wall. The principles can also run on automatic animations or stay permanently illuminated if there is a special event in the space.
By The Numbers: A 30’+ LED wall that inspires users to explore Amazon’s investments in supporting small businesses and environmental sustainability. Users can navigate into continents, countries, and states around the world to understand how and where Amazon has supported their community. The wall can be held in single user mode for presentations, or dual user mode for free exploration during events.
Voices of Amazon: Two wall mounted portrait style stations that feature interviews with everyday citizens who have had their lives profoundly affected by Amazon’s technology and support. Stories range from the scaling of small businesses to showcasing how Alexa voice technology can help physically impaired individuals navigate the complexities of modern life.
The Current: The most technologically diverse of all six experiences, The Current invites visitors in with a custom built 350 light LED ceiling sculpture, and ambient soundscape, and three curved OLED screens that rise out of the ground. There are also projectors that map out a generative art pice in the center between the screens. In ambient/attract mode, the LED’s and projections swirl invitingly. One a user steps up to a kiosk, the lights overhead pulse in a pre-assigned color and the projection brightens around the kiosk that is in use. Each screen has it’s own set of stories to tell, and when a user steps into the middle of the experience, the projections, LED’s, and directional sound all rise to create an immersive symphony.
